The development of technology is very rapid so that wireless communication has become one of the necessities in everyday life, ranging from small things such as the use of remotecontrol to medical applications. Antennas, that are very popular for wireless communication, aremicrostrip antennas because they are easy to manufacture, and the price is quite affordable. However, the microstrip antenna itself has several drawbacks. One of which is a small bandwidthso that it cannot work on many frequencies. Planar monopole antenna is one solution to the lowbandwidth of microstrip antennas with a simple structure that makes it easy to manufacture at anaffordable price. In order for the antenna to work at a frequency of 3.1-10.6 GHz (ultra- wideband), metamaterials can be added to the antenna. In addition to increasing bandwidth, metamaterials also have advantages such as low manufacturing costs and can be a method of miniaturization. In this study, a monopole antenna with a hexagonal patch was designed with theaddition of a metamaterial, namely Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) in a hexagonal shape to increase the bandwidth of the antenna. The minimum working frequency range of the antenna is 3.1 – 10.6 GHz (ultra-wideband¬) with the substrate material namely FR-4 and the material forthe patch and groundplane is copper. The bandwidth of the antenna before adding the EBG structure is 14.0324 GHz and after adding the EBG structure it becomes 15.0324 GHz
